Privacy Policy
1. Data Controller
The administrator of personal data is Igor Oprządek (WebOrbiton Team), Bągart 14A, Poland.
E-mail: privacy[at]weborbiton.com
2. Data Protection Officer
No Data Protection Officer has been appointed.
3. Nature of the Service
MevaSearch News (news.mevasearch.com) is a free news aggregator. It shows headlines, short excerpts and preview images taken from publicly available RSS and Atom feeds, with a link to the original article on the publisher’s website.
- no user accounts and no registration
- no analytics of any kind (including PriviMetrics, which is used on the main MevaSearch service)
- no advertising, no tracking cookies, no tracking identifiers
- no user profiling and no cross-site tracking
- no sale or sharing of user data with third parties
4. Scope of Processed Data
The Service does not ask you for any personal data. The only data processed are:
- Technical data: IP address, date and time of the request, requested address, browser and device type. These reach the web server with every request, as on any website (see Section 6).
- Preferences you set yourself: your chosen edition (language) and colour theme, stored in two cookies on your device (see Section 9).
The MevaSearch News application itself does not record visitor IP addresses or any other visitor data in its own logs or database. The database contains only articles taken from publishers’ feeds.
5. Purposes and Legal Basis (GDPR)
- delivering the website and keeping it secure and working (technical data, server logs): Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in operating a secure service
- remembering the edition and theme you selected: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; the cookies are strictly necessary to provide a function you explicitly requested
6. Server Logs
The web server operated by our hosting provider, Hostinger, may record standard access logs (IP address, time, requested address, browser type) for technical and security purposes, such as diagnosing errors and defending against attacks. These logs are not used for analytics, statistics or identifying visitors.
7. Images and Outgoing Links
Preview images are downloaded and served by our own server (image proxy). Your browser never connects to publishers’ servers while you browse MevaSearch News, so publishers do not receive your IP address. Downloaded images are cached on our server for up to 7 days.
When you open an article, you leave MevaSearch News and go to the publisher’s website, where the publisher’s own privacy policy and cookie rules apply. Links are opened without sending a referrer, so the publisher is not told that you came from MevaSearch News.
8. Search
The search box sends your query directly to MevaSearch (mevasearch.com). MevaSearch News does not receive, store or process the query. Searching is governed by the MevaSearch Privacy Policy.
9. Cookies and Local Storage
MevaSearch News uses only two functional cookies. They are set only after you choose an option yourself. No advertising, tracking or analytics cookies are used, and browser localStorage is not used.
- mn_lang: remembers your chosen edition, or that you dismissed the edition suggestion, if you ticked “remember”. Retained for up to 12 months.
- mn_theme: remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme. Retained for up to 12 months.
The suggestion of an edition in your language is based on your browser’s language setting and is worked out entirely in your browser. Fonts and scripts are served from our own server; no external font or script services are used. Deleting cookies resets these preferences to default.
10. Data Recipients
The only recipient of technical data is our hosting provider, which acts as a processor maintaining the server infrastructure on our behalf:
- Hostinger (Hostinger International Ltd.): hosting provider (server infrastructure). Service files are stored on servers located in Lithuania (primary), with backup copies maintained in France. Both locations are within the European Economic Area (EEA). The service additionally uses a global Content Delivery Network (CDN) for static asset delivery (scripts, stylesheets, fonts, images). CDN edge nodes may be located outside the EEA; no personal user data is stored at CDN nodes. Hostinger’s privacy policy: hostinger.com/legal/privacy-policy.
No data is shared with any other party for advertising, profiling or commercial purposes.
11. Retention Period
- server access logs: up to 30 days
- cookies: up to 12 months, or until you delete them
- search queries: not received by MevaSearch News
12. Your Rights
- access to data, rectification and deletion
- restriction of processing
- objection to processing
- right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (PUODO, the Polish Personal Data Protection Office)
Because the Service does not link any data to a person, we may be unable to identify which records relate to you (Art. 11 GDPR). Contact: privacy[at]weborbiton.com
13. Children
The Service does not collect personal data from anyone, including children. News content comes from third-party publishers and may cover topics unsuitable for younger readers.
14. Profiling and Automated Decisions
The Service does not use profiling or automated decision-making affecting users (Art. 22 GDPR). Articles are sorted into categories automatically; this concerns the articles, not users.
15. Data Transfer Outside the EEA
The Service is hosted within the European Economic Area (EEA): primary servers are in Lithuania, backups in France. Apart from the CDN described below, no data is transferred outside the EEA.
Hostinger CDN (global content delivery network): static technical assets and preview images may be cached and served from CDN edge nodes located outside the EEA, including the United States. As with any network connection, the edge node serving you sees your IP address in order to deliver the file; no personal data, preferences or search queries are stored at CDN nodes.
16. Changes to the Policy
We may update this policy. The current version and its date are always published on this page.
